Incidental MIH Course

Delegates who successfully complete this course will be awarded 7 hours Verifiable CPD.

Aims:

The aim of this course is to provide a contemporary, evidence-based understanding of managing patients with molar-incisor hypomineralisation (MIH).  Participants will learn to identify MIH, understand the aeitological causes and treatment considerations for anterior and posterior teeth, and gain the practical confidence to manage MIH defects.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of the session participants will be able to:

  1. Recognise patients with MIH and how to differentiate them to other developmental defects of enamel

  2. Understand the aeitological considerations associated with MIH, and have the confidence to discuss these with patients and parents

  3. Appreciate how structural abnormalities associated with hypomineralised enamel can impact treatment, and how to overcome them.

  4. Apply fundamental principles of treatment planning for anterior and posterior teeth in patients diagnosed with MIH.

  5. Appreciate the need for shared decision-making when managing anterior opacities and affected molars

  6. Execute the clinical steps for microabrasion, resin infiltration, restoration of an affected molar and preparation of an indirect restoration, discussing both traditional analogue and digital impression techniques.
