Restoratively Driven Endodontics

Delegates who successfully complete this course will be awarded 64 hours Verifiable CPD

Aims:

To develop delegates' knowledge, clinical decision making and practical skills across the endodontic and restorative treatment continuum, from initial case assessment through to the definitive restoration of the endodontically treated tooth.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of the course participants will be able to:

  1. Comprehensively assess a tooth of endodontic interest, including taking and interpreting relevant records, and determine prognosis

  2. Assess restorability and apply this judgement to case selection before endodontic treatment is undertaken

  3. Apply modern principles of access cavity design

  4. Understand and apply the principles of canal shaping, and critique the range of contemporary instrument systems available

  5. Select and deliver irrigation protocols appropriate to the case, including those supporting single-visit endodontic treatment

  6. Demonstrate contemporary obturation techniques, including warm vertical compaction

  7. Manage the calcified, ledged, curved and S-shaped canal

  8. Apply anatomically driven preparation, selecting an approach appropriate to the canal presented

  9. Manage complex obturation scenarios, including oval, confluent and bifurcating canals and internal resorption defects

  10. Manage the open apex using collagen barrier and hydraulic putty techniques

  11. Select and deliver appropriate pre-endodontic isolation and build-up techniques, including deep margin elevation and matrix selection

  12. Critique and select appropriate post-endodontic restorative options, including fibre and titanium posts, short fibre composites, onlays, crowns and vertipreps

  13. Provide appropriate provisional restorations for the endodontically treated tooth

  14. Assess endodontic re-treatment cases and select those with a favourable prognosis

  15. Demonstrate techniques for the removal of gutta percha, Thermafil, and metal and fibre posts

  16. Plan and deliver the complete endodontic and restorative workflow on a complex case
