Incidental Implant Course
Delegates who successfully complete this course will be awarded 7 hours Verifiable CPD
Aims:
The aim of this course is to provide General Dental Practitioners with a contemporary, evidence-based understanding of the dental implant journey. Participants will learn to identify suitable cases, understand the surgical considerations that impact long-term success, and gain the practical confidence to restore and maintain dental implants within a general practice setting.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of the session participants will be able to:
• Identify appropriate medical and dental indications for implant therapy and recognise "straightforward" cases suitable for in-house restoration.
• Understand the surgical decision-making process, including the rationale for immediate versus delayed placement and the role of digital planning.
• Implement atraumatic extraction techniques and understand the principles of socket preservation to optimise future implant success.
• Execute the clinical steps for restoring a single-tooth implant, including both traditional analogue and digital impression techniques.
• Differentiate between screw-retained and cement-retained restorations and select appropriate abutment and crown materials for various clinical scenarios.
• Apply fundamental principles of implant occlusion and establish long-term maintenance and monitoring protocols for existing implant patients.
• Recognize early signs of peri-implant disease and understand when and how to refer patients back for specialist care.
